Collaborative
for Hate-Crime Incident Research, Response
& Prevention

Welcome to the Collaborative for Hate-Crime Incident Research, Response & Prevention (CHIRRP)

CHIRRP is a community-led research project that taps into the power of New York City’s community-based organizations (CBOs) to prevent and respond to hate crimes. The research group is led by the CUNY Institute for State & Local Governance and supported by the U.S. Department of Justice.

About CHIRRP

Partners include government agencies, religious organizations, cultural membership organizations, advocacy organizations, and more. Together, CHIRRP is using a community participatory design for the project—including interviews, data analysis, surveys, document reviews, and more—to better understand, prevent, and respond to hate crimes, and outline community-based organizations' roles in doing so.
